The tower and its clock came to no harm in 1670 when the old fortress burnt down! Before the introduction of a standard European time, the clock had three dials showing the time in Paris, Berne and Geneva.

The Quai de l’Île is regarded as the cradle of the “cabinotiers”. On the top floors of the surrounding buildings one can see the small square windows of the watchmakers’ former workshops known as “cabinets”. It was here that Vacheron Constantin first etablished its workshop. This prestigious Genevan brand was created in 1755. Now, this Maison offers thematic exhibitions of timpieces relating to its rich heritage. More informations here.
